Personal Training at SMI focuses on the prevention
and treatment of athletic and non-athletic injuries.
Most injuries stem from imbalances in posture, strength,
flexibility, coordination, joint stability, and/or balance. After
a thorough evaluation we will incorporate core
strengthening and functional exercises to develop an
individualized training plan that addresses your specific
weaknesses and needs. Whether you’re an athlete or
someone who wants to live a stronger and healthier
lifestyle, you will benefit from a program catered for
individual needs.
Core Strength
Think of the core as the foundation of movement. By
learning to engage the core, you provide a natural weight
belt that provides a strong base for force distribution
throughout your body. This will create an efficient muscular
system and prevent injuries to common over stressed
areas such as the low back.
Functional Strength
Functional movements are those movements that we must
perform on a daily basis. They can be sport related or just
a simple task like carring a grocery bag.
Normal body
movement requires movement in three dimensions, across
three planes and involves multi-joint movements. When
you go to sit in a chair you bend at the hips, knees, and
ankles. By prescribing tasks (exercises) that challenge your
body to move in different planes and that require multi-joint
movements you in essence create a functional environment that simulates real life."
